Learning a digital skill from home, for free, sounds almost too good — but DigiSkills is exactly that: Pakistan’s free, government-run online training programme for freelancing and digital skills. You sign up free, enrol in up to two courses per batch, learn online over about 12 weeks through video lessons, quizzes, and hands-on exercises, and earn a Virtual University e-certificate on completion. It teaches skills — it does not find you clients or guarantee income.
What DigiSkills is
DigiSkills is an initiative of the Government of Pakistan, spearheaded by the Ministry of IT & Telecom through Ignite (National Technology Fund) and executed by the Virtual University of Pakistan. It describes itself as Pakistan’s first online training programme built specifically for the freelance market, with course content designed for a Pakistani audience in a mix of Urdu and English.
That matters for one reason: unlike generic international course platforms, DigiSkills teaches the exact skills Pakistani freelancers sell — and its coaches understand the local market.
How batches work (this is the part most people get wrong)
DigiSkills does not run on a join-anytime model. It runs in batches, and that changes how you plan:
- Sign up once — create your account on digiskills.pk with your email address.
- Wait for the enrolment window — enrolment opens about one month before each batch starts, and seats are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Enrol in up to two courses per batch — no more. With 24 courses on offer, you could theoretically cover all of them in 12 batches, but DigiSkills itself recommends learning 2–3 skills properly rather than collecting enrolments.
- Learn on the LMS — once the batch starts, weekly videos and study material appear on the DigiSkills Learning Management System (new weekly content is released on Mondays by 11:00 am). You can follow the timetable or learn at your own pace.
- Complete the work — video lectures, weekly quizzes, and hands-on exercises all count toward completion.
- Earn the e-certificate — on meeting the completion criteria, you receive a verified e-certificate issued by the Virtual University of Pakistan (soft copy only, downloadable from the LMS).
Confirmed upcoming window: DigiSkills’ own FAQ page states that enrolments for Batch-05 of DigiSkills 3.0 open on 2 November 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis, with classes starting in the first week of December 2026 (exact date to be announced). That window is not yet live at the time of this revision (26 October 2026) — do not treat it as open before 2 November — and because batch dates can change, re-check the FAQ page before you rely on this date. It comes from DigiSkills itself, not a rumour blog.
Which courses are offered
DigiSkills currently lists 24 courses: Freelancing, E-Commerce Management, Creative Writing, Graphics Design, QuickBooks, WordPress, AutoCAD, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Digital Marketing, Digital Literacy, Virtual Assistant, Affiliate Marketing, Communication & Soft Skills, Video Editing, Animation & Vlogging, Data Analytics & Business Intelligence, Startup Strategies & Entrepreneurship, Artificial Intelligence with Python, UI/UX & Webflow, Mobile Game and App Development, Shopify Development and Dropshipping, Cloud Computing, Full Stack Development Using MERN, Legal Drafting and Global Compliance, and 3D Modeling.
There is no minimum educational requirement — DigiSkills encourages anyone who can read, write, and understand English to take the training.
Which course should you pick first?
Pick by the work you want to sell, not by what sounds impressive. A practical way to choose:
- Complete beginner, want to earn online? Start with Freelancing as one of your two courses. It teaches profiles, proposals, and client communication — the part most new freelancers actually fail at — and pair it with one sellable skill.
- Want the fastest route to paid work? Pair Freelancing with WordPress, SEO, Graphic Design, or Content/Creative Writing. Businesses buy these services every day, and each one produces portfolio pieces quickly.
- Already have a skill? Skip the beginner track and add a complementary one — for example, Digital Marketing alongside SEO, or Video Editing alongside Graphic Design.
- Avoid the trap of enrolling in two unrelated courses at once. Two skills learned properly beat four started and abandoned.
What the certificate does — and does not — do
The DigiSkills e-certificate proves you completed a course to its criteria. It helps on a freelance profile, a CV, and a portfolio page. What it does not do is get you clients: DigiSkills states plainly that it trains you but does not offer jobs — you find work yourself on freelance marketplaces, with coaches helping you build your profile and bidding skills during training.
That is why this post recommends a portfolio rule: for every DigiSkills course you take, build three real sample projects before you call yourself ready. A certificate opens the profile; the portfolio wins the client.
