NAVTTC Free Skills Training: Courses, Eligibility, and How to Apply

For a young Pakistani who wants a practical trade and a recognised certificate — without paying tuition — NAVTTC is the first place to look. The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission offers free, classroom-based skills training across Pakistan under the Prime Minister’s Youth Skills Development Program (PMYSDP). If you are aged 18–35 with at least Matric, you can apply online through the NSIS portal, sit an aptitude test, and — if selected — train for 3–6 months at an approved institute and earn a nationally recognised certificate. There is no tuition fee.

What NAVTTC training actually is

NAVTTC is the federal body for technical and vocational training in Pakistan. Its flagship route for young people is the Prime Minister’s Youth Skills Development Program (PMYSDP), which funds free training at approved institutes around the country.

Unlike online-only courses, NAVTTC training is practical and in-person: you attend an institute, practise on real equipment, and are assessed on what you can actually do, not just what you memorised. That is why employers in trades such as construction, hospitality, IT, and healthcare value the certificate — it certifies competence, not attendance alone.

Two other NAVTTC routes are worth knowing about:

  • Takamol — a certification programme connected to overseas employment, including recognition of Pakistani skills in Saudi Arabia.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) — if you already know a trade from work experience but hold no certificate, RPL can assess and certify your existing skills.

Who can apply: eligibility

According to NAVTTC’s own student page, the general eligibility for its student training route is:

  • Age 18–35
  • Education: Matric or above
  • Pakistani nationality and a valid CNIC (standard for government programmes; confirm the exact document list for your chosen trade on the NSIS portal)

One important nuance: individual trades may set their own education requirement above Matric — for example, some digital or specialist courses expect Intermediate or higher. Always check the requirement shown for the specific trade you pick, rather than assuming Matric is enough for every course.

What courses and trades are available

NAVTTC’s training covers a wide trade family, not just IT. Examples visible on its official site include:

  • Construction trades — such as Mason and Painter (NVQF Level 3, 6 months)
  • Digital and freelancing skills — including AI, Power BI, e-commerce, freelancing, graphic design, and AI-driven digital marketing and SEO, under its “Skills of Tomorrow” programme
  • Technical trades — such as solar PV installation and other hands-on technical fields
  • Hospitality, healthcare, and service trades — offered through approved institutes in different batches

The exact trade list changes from batch to batch and institute to institute, so the live list on the NSIS portal matters more than any list in this article. Choose a trade that matches both your interest and the jobs available near you — a certificate in a trade with no local demand helps far less than one in a trade employers are hiring for.

How to apply: the NSIS route, step by step

Applications run through NAVTTC’s National Skills Information System (NSIS) portal:

  1. Check your eligibility — confirm your age and education against the trade you want.
  2. Choose your programme and trade — and your nearest approved institute.
  3. Register and submit your application online through the NSIS portal, with your CNIC and education details.
  4. Sit the NTS aptitude test — NAVTTC’s own process lists an NTS aptitude exam as part of selection.
  5. Wait for selection — selected candidates are placed at an institute for training.
  6. Complete training (usually 3–6 months) — most foundational courses run 3–6 months; advanced or specialist courses can run 9–12 months, depending on the trade and NVQF level.
  7. Pass the competency-based assessment — this is the final test of practical skill.
  8. Receive certification — certificates are issued under the National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF); NAVTTC states that selected trades also carry international recognition.

If you are stuck at any step, NAVTTC’s official helpline is 0800-88866 (Monday–Friday, 8 am–4 pm), and its official contact email is info@navttc.gov.pk.

What the certificate is worth — honestly

The NVQF certificate is a government-recognised vocational qualification, and NAVTTC states that its programmes include job placement support and industry linkages, particularly for trades linked to overseas employment. But a certificate is not a job guarantee: employment still depends on your performance, the trade you chose, and market demand. Treat any person or page promising “guaranteed jobs after NAVTTC” as a red flag — NAVTTC itself only promises placement support.

What is not confirmed — read before you rely on dates

NAVTTC’s student page does not publish a single national closing date, and batch windows differ by trade and institute. This article therefore gives no batch deadline and no stipend figure: neither appeared on the official pages checked at writing time. Before you travel to an institute or pay anyone anything, confirm the current batch and its dates on the NSIS portal or by calling the helpline. Training under PMYSDP is free — anyone asking you for an admission fee in NAVTTC’s name is not acting for NAVTTC.
